Tom Latham, the New Zealand Test captain, has signed with Warwickshire as one of their overseas players for the 2025 season. With minimal overlap between New Zealand’s international schedule and the English summer, Latham will play the full season for Warwickshire. New Zealand’s tour to Zimbabwe in July-August and a possible World Test Championship final in June mean Latham will be available for the Bears across formats.

Warwickshire, who finished seventh in Division One of the 2024 Championship, have been strengthening their batting lineup following the departures of Will Rhodes, Chris Benjamin, and Michael Burgess’ sudden retirement. As a result, Gavin Larsen, Warwickshire’s performance director, expressed excitement over securing Latham, highlighting his proven ability and experience. “Tom is one of the finest batters in international cricket, and we’re thrilled that he has chosen Warwickshire for the 2025 season,” said Larsen.
Although Latham is renowned for his red-ball cricket, he has featured in over 100 T20 matches, averaging 30 with a strike rate of 131. This makes him a valuable addition to the Birmingham Bears’ T20 Blast campaign. His experience and leadership will be crucial for the younger players in Warwickshire’s squad.
Latham, who has previously played for Kent, Durham, and Surrey, expressed his excitement about joining Warwickshire. “Edgbaston is one of my favorite venues, and I’m excited to call it my home ground for the 2025 season,” said Latham. “I’m looking forward to contributing to the Bears’ success and helping them lift a trophy.” He also shared his enthusiasm for bringing his family to Birmingham and exploring the city.
