Rafael Nadal has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Laver Cup, set to take place in Berlin next week. The decision, which Nadal shared with a heavy heart, stems from his commitment to supporting Team Europe in the most effective way possible. Grigor Dimitrov will take his place in the tournament.
“I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” Nadal said in his statement. “This is a team competition and to truly support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them. At this moment, there are other players who can help the team secure a win.”
Nadal, who has been a significant presence at the Laver Cup, reflected on his past experiences with the tournament. “I have so many great, emotional memories from playing at the Laver Cup. And I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and Bjorn in his final-year as captain,” he said.
Despite his absence, Nadal extended his support to the team, stating, “I wish Team Europe the very best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar.”
