The BCCI has reportedly delayed its decision on IPL 2025 retentions, which was initially expected by mid-September. According to a Cricbuzz report, the board, led by Roger Binny, will now take an extra 10 to 14 days to finalize its stance. The decision is likely to be announced during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29 in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, teams have been instructed to submit their retention lists by November 15, with the IPL 2025 auction expected to take place in December. The auction will likely include the Right to Match (RTM) option, allowing franchises to retain certain players.
In another key development, the BCCI is considering a controversial rule change regarding retired players, potentially classifying them as “uncapped.” If approved, this rule would let CSK retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player. Dhoni retired from international cricket over five years ago. This possibility has excited many CSK fans, hoping for his retention. However, the franchise’s CEO denied making any formal request to the BCCI. He clarified that the board mentioned the uncapped rule, but no final decision has been made yet.
If implemented, the new rule could also benefit Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as their key player Sunil Narine retired from international cricket in 2019.
