British No. 4 Harriet Dart’s campaign at the Singapore Open ended quickly as she faced a straight-set defeat to Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann in the opening round. The 6-3, 6-1 loss saw Dart exit the tournament, unable to secure a win in their third meeting.
The two players had previously faced off twice, with one win apiece, including matches at the 2023 Australian Open and Eastbourne in 2022. However, it was Teichmann, ranked No. 128 in the world, who dominated the court in Singapore. Despite Dart’s best efforts, the Swiss player was clinical, saving all seven of Dart’s break points throughout the match. Teichmann’s powerful serving was evident in the second set, where she delivered three aces, ultimately sealing her spot in the second round.
Dart’s loss marks another early exit for British players at this year’s Singapore Open. Earlier in the tournament, Emma Raducanu, the tournament’s seventh seed, also faced a shock first-round defeat, falling to world No. 101 Cristina Bucșa.
Dart will now turn her attention to future events, as she looks to bounce back from this disappointing performance.
