Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has reassured fans following a frightening injury during Spurs’ Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Liverpool on Wednesday. The Uruguay international went down in the eighth minute, sparking immediate concern among players and spectators.
The incident occurred as Bentancur contested a corner kick. After failing to connect with a header, he remained on the ground, prompting teammate Pedro Porro to urgently call for medical assistance. The match halted for approximately ten minutes as medical staff attended to Bentancur, eventually stretchered him off the pitch while he received oxygen. Brennan Johnson came on as a substitute to replace him.
In the wake of the incident, Tottenham released a statement confirming that Bentancur was conscious and speaking before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The club’s communication aimed to calm fans’ concerns about the midfielder’s condition.
Hours later, Bentancur addressed his supporters directly via Instagram, posting a reassuring update. “All good, guys!” he wrote, accompanied by a photo of himself smiling and giving a thumbs-up. He also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, adding, “Thank you for the messages! Congratulations to the boys on the victory!!!”
Despite Bentancur’s early exit, Spurs managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liverpool, thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s decisive goal. The win advances Ange Postecoglou’s side to the Carabao Cup final, though fans will now await further updates on Bentancur’s recovery.
This latest development highlights both the fragility of the sport and the resilience of its players, with Bentancur’s positive message bringing relief to the Tottenham faithful.
