Liverpool have confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will miss the upcoming games against Newcastle United and Arsenal after suffering a hamstring injury. The summer signing was substituted during the Reds’ Premier League win over Bournemouth and is expected to return only after the international break.
Head coach Arne Slot explained that the medical team advised taking Frimpong off to prevent further damage. “It was the right call, otherwise he could have been out for much longer,” Slot said. “We expect him back after the break.”
On a positive note, Conor Bradley has resumed training with the squad after missing the Community Shield and the season opener. “Conor trained for a few minutes with us today for the first time,” Slot confirmed in his press conference.
Joe Gomez also returned to action, featuring in the second half against Bournemouth following a minor injury that had ruled him out of the pre-season tour. However, Slot stressed that his workload will need to be managed carefully.
Asked about the right-back situation, Slot admitted the team is short in that area but remained calm. “Jeremie has a good injury record, and Conor was out only once or twice last season. These things happen,” he noted. “We have other players who can cover—Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, or Joe Gomez.”
Despite the setbacks, Slot highlighted Liverpool’s squad depth as a key advantage. “You cannot prepare for two injuries in one position, but we have solutions,” he said. “We’re unlucky with right-backs, but we have three left-backs available!”
Liverpool will now navigate their next fixtures without Frimpong, but with Bradley and Gomez nearing full fitness, options remain for Slot.
