The Chennai Super Kings currently occupy the fourth position in the IPL 2024 standings, having secured three wins and suffered two losses so far in the tournament.

In a recent discussion between former English captain Michael Vaughan and ex-Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, the focus was on comparing the leadership qualities of Shubman Gill from the Gujarat Titans and Ruturaj Gaikwad from the Chennai Super Kings, both young skippers in IPL 2024. While Gill leads his team without significant support, Gaikwad benefits from the presence of MS Dhoni, a veteran leader, in his team.
However, Sehwag’s perspective on Gaikwad appears to have evolved following the latter’s impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 67 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Sehwag revealed his earlier prediction from 2021, foreseeing Gaikwad’s captaincy role for CSK due to his evident leadership qualities and cricketing abilities. He emphasized that evaluating a captain should consider not only results but also their leadership attributes, both of which Gaikwad possesses according to Sehwag.
Drawing a parallel with MS Dhoni‘s journey to becoming a successful captain, Sehwag highlighted Gaikwad’s potential to lead CSK effectively. Despite being in the early stages of his captaincy, Gaikwad has demonstrated composure and sound decision-making skills on the field. Sehwag expressed confidence in Gaikwad’s leadership abilities, suggesting that he is currently the best candidate to captain CSK, with the expectation that results will further validate his capabilities over time.
