The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) recently announced a significant development ahead of Uganda’s historic debut in the Twenty20 World Cup. The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed former India first-class cricketer Abhay Sharma as the new head coach of the men’s national team.

Uganda secured their World Cup spot after defeating Rwanda in the final round of African qualifiers, alongside Namibia. Now, they set their sights on the global stage.
Sharma, boasting a rich coaching pedigree, has been entrusted with leading Uganda to new heights over a three-year contract. His experience includes coaching roles with India A, India Under-19s, and several domestic teams in India. He also served as the fielding coach of the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team. This wealth of knowledge and expertise positions him well to guide the Cricket Cranes.
Reflecting on his appointment, Sharma expressed his commitment to contributing to Uganda’s cricketing aspirations, particularly focusing on areas like fielding. Sharma himself brings a wealth of on-field experience, having played for Delhi, Railways, and Rajasthan, and being part of championship-winning domestic teams.
Under Sharma’s guidance, Uganda aims to make a mark in their debut World Cup campaign. They’ll compete in Group C alongside Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, West Indies, and New Zealand. Their first challenge is against Afghanistan on June 3 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
As Uganda embarks on this historic journey, all eyes are on Abhay Sharma’s leadership and expertise. Can he help them navigate the challenges of international cricket and make a strong impression on the global stage? The cricketing world awaits to see if the Cricket Cranes can take flight under Sharma’s wings.
