As Delhi Capitals (DC) aim to secure a playoff berth in the IPL 2024, former Indian opener and commentator Aakash Chopra has emphasized the importance of captain Rishabh Pant batting higher up the order, especially in their crucial encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Chopra expressed disappointment with DC’s decision to send Pant lower down the order in their previous match against MI at Wankhede Stadium. Despite Pant’s ability to turn the game around with his aggressive batting, he came in late during a challenging run chase, contributing to DC’s narrow loss.
Reflecting on Pant’s recent impactful innings, especially his 88-run knock against Gujarat Titans, Chopra highlighted the need for Pant to take on greater responsibility by batting higher up the order consistently. He praised Pant’s controlled aggression and incredible stroke-making abilities, citing his ability to adapt to different conditions.
Chopra urged Pant to consider moving up the batting order, emphasizing that his explosive batting style could significantly influence the outcome of the match, particularly in slower conditions. He emphasized the importance of Pant’s leadership and contribution as the captain of the team.
With DC’s playoff hopes hanging in the balance, a victory against MI is crucial for their campaign. Despite a shaky start to the season, DC has shown improvement, and Pant’s leadership and batting prowess will be vital in their quest for success in the IPL.
