Virat Kohli and Team India Interrupt Celebrations, Rush to Acknowledge Dean Elgar’s Remarkable Farewell in Final Test Inning

Dean Elgar faced a double dismissal on Day 1, marking the end of his Test career. Following his second innings dismissal, Virat Kohli and Team India extended heartfelt congratulations.

The second Test between India and South Africa’s opening day proved challenging for both teams. Mohammed Siraj’s exceptional bowling with career-best figures of 6/15 led to South Africa collapsing for a record-low score of 55.

Early into the third session, India, with Virat Kohli nearing his half-century, seemed poised for a significant lead. However, a sudden downturn saw India going from 153/4 to 153 all out, bringing South Africa back to bat.

Dean Elgar, South Africa’s stand-in captain retiring after this Test, faced his final innings on Day 1. He received applause after being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar for 12 runs. Virat Kohli, after catching Elgar, gestured toward the dressing room but soon realized it was Elgar’s last Test walk.

Kohli, Siraj, and other Indian cricketers cut short their celebrations, offering handshakes and pats to Elgar. Kohli hugged him tightly, and the Indian team acknowledged Elgar’s departure.

Elgar defended the decision to bat first, despite South Africa’s collapse. Standing in for the injured Temba Bavuma, Elgar expressed confidence in their bowlers to make an impact on the pitch.

After dismissing India for 153, South Africa ended the day at 62 for three in their second innings. Elgar remains optimistic about their chances, emphasizing the potency of their bowlers against any batting lineup on the challenging wicket.
