India’s explosive batting performance in the 4th T20I at Johannesburg secured a dominant 135-run victory over South Africa, sealing a 3-1 series win. With a total of 283/1, India posted their second-highest T20I score ever and the highest-ever T20I total in South Africa. This remarkable feat was powered by centuries from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma, who combined to produce a massive 210-run partnership—the highest-ever second-wicket partnership for India in men’s T20Is.
Samson and Tilak Shatter Records

Samson’s 109 off 56 balls was a well-paced knock, while Tilak blazed to 120* from 47 balls, including nine boundaries and ten sixes. Their partnership tore apart the South African attack, with India reaching 73/1 after the powerplay and 200/1 after 15 overs. The pair’s six-hitting was especially impressive, with Samson finding the boundary nine times, including four sixes through the off side. Tilak, preferring the leg side, hammered 74 of his runs there, including eight sixes. India’s assault continued as they finished the final six overs with 84 more runs, leaving the Proteas bowlers searching for answers.
South Africa’s Struggles with the Ball
South Africa, who have not won a bilateral T20I series since August 2022, struggled to contain the Indian onslaught. The Proteas’ bowlers failed to execute their plans effectively, conceding wides and no-balls, which further compounded their issues. Gerald Coetzee’s hamstring injury and poor bowling from Andile Simelane added to South Africa’s woes.
India’s Early Breakthroughs
In the field, India’s bowlers were outstanding, with Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya causing early damage. Arshdeep swung the ball both ways, dismissing Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram early. Pandya’s movement had Ryan Rickelton edging to the keeper as South Africa found themselves 1 for 2.
Late Surge from South Africa, But No Hope
Despite a late surge from Tristan Stubbs and David Miller, South Africa’s response fell well short of the target. Varun Chakravarthy, the series’ highest wicket-taker, dismissed Miller, while Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep cleaned up the tail. South Africa ended their innings at 148, leaving India with a commanding 135-run victory.
India’s Series Win
India’s series win and their remarkable batting performances highlight the team’s dominance in T20 cricket, with Samson and Tilak’s centuries cementing their place in the record books.
