For the 2025 SA20 season, Paarl Royals have retained key South African players, including Captain David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, and Andile Phehlukwayo. They have also kept rookie signings from the 2024 season, Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, ahead of the auction.
To make room for these players, the Royals have released Dane Vilas, Evan Jones, Wihan Lubbe, and Ferisco Adams. The current squad now includes 11 players, with Dayyaan Galiem, a seam-bowling allrounder traded from Joburg Super Kings, joining the team. The Royals traded Tabraiz Shamsi to Joburg Super Kings.
The team will finalize the squad, including overseas players and any additional releases, after the auction. Last season, the Royals reached the Qualifiers but experienced a tough end with five consecutive losses, including a nine-wicket defeat in the Eliminator against Super Kings. The new season is set to start on January 9.
Kumar Sangakkara, Royals’ Director of Cricket, is confident about their retained players: “We are excited to enter the upcoming auction with a strong core of both capped and uncapped South African players.” After last season’s disappointment, it was important to reassess the squad and make necessary changes.”
Meanwhile, MI Cape Town has retained Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, and several others, including Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton. They have released Beuran Hendricks, Duan Jansen, Grant Roelofsen, and Neelan van Heerden, thanking them for their contributions over the past two seasons.
