In his opening spell, the 34-year-old delivered a couple of lightning-fast yorkers before dismantling the defense of Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan with a scorching outswinger on the third ball of the match.

Starc’s early breakthrough not only gave Australia a strong start but also allowed him to surpass Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga for a significant World Cup record.

Mitchell Starc Sets New Record

Mitchell Starc has now become the most successful bowler in the history of men’s World Cups, both ODI and T20Is combined, in terms of the number of wickets taken.

By dismissing Tanzid Hasan for a three-ball duck on June 21, Starc increased his total World Cup wickets tally to 95, surpassing Lasith Malinga’s career total of 94 wickets.

Starc finished his four-over spell with economical figures of 1-21. With 95 of his 313 limited-overs career wickets coming in World Cup matches, Starc has a strong chance of becoming the first cricketer in history to reach the 100-wicket milestone at the big stage during the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.
