Bangladesh faces an early setback as their experienced batter, Mushfiqur Rahim, has been ruled out of the Test squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies. His availability for the ODI series against the Windies also remains uncertain, leaving Bangladesh Cricket concerned about his fitness. Mushfiqur sustained a fracture on the tip of his left index finger while keeping wicket in the first ODI against Afghanistan, which forced him out of the remainder of the Afghanistan series, where Bangladesh currently trails.
According to the team doctor, Mushfiqur’s injury requires four to six weeks of recovery, eliminating any chance of him participating in the Test series against the West Indies. There remains a slim possibility of him returning for the ODIs, though the timeline makes this unlikely. Bangladesh has opted not to name any replacement for him in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan.
As anticipated, Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the Test team, with Bangladesh aiming to rebound from a tough series loss to South Africa. The Tigers struggled against the Proteas, and they now set their sights on a positive turnaround against the West Indies. Bangladesh has retained most of the squad from their previous series, aiming to secure a much-needed Test victory. Their last win came in August against Pakistan.
The two-match Test series begins on November 22, with the first game scheduled at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
