Australia batter Grace Harris has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI World Cup after sustaining a calf strain. She picked up the injury while fielding in the final ODI of the three-match series against India in Delhi, her only appearance of the series. Harris had been drafted in as cover after Annabel Sutherland was sidelined with hip soreness.

Although Harris was not expected to feature in Australia’s first-choice XI, her powerful lower-order batting made her an important reserve option. Her absence comes at a time when the squad is already managing several injury concerns. Sutherland’s hip soreness followed Phoebe Litchfield missing two ODIs with a quad issue, while Darcie Brown also battled back spasms.
Sophie Molineux remains unavailable as she continues rehabilitation from a major knee injury. Meanwhile, Georgia Wareham has only recently recovered from a groin and adductor strain that ruled her out of the Hundred. Skipper Alyssa Healy, returning from a serious foot injury, successfully played all three ODIs against India.
To fill Harris’s spot, selectors have turned to 28-year-old allrounder Heather Graham. The Western Australia player has limited international experience, having featured in just one ODI back in 2019. She last represented Australia in September 2023, the most recent of her five T20I appearances. Despite her absence from the international scene, Graham has regularly been part of Australian squads in recent years and now has the chance to make an impact on the global stage.
Australia’s depth will once again be tested heading into the World Cup, with several players recovering from injuries. Harris’s untimely setback highlights the challenges the team faces in maintaining balance and fitness during a crucial tournament.
