Mickey Arthur named head coach of Rangpur Riders

Rangpur Riders have announced the appointment of Mickey Arthur as their head coach for the upcoming season. The 56-year-old will lead the team in the Global Super League (GSL), set to begin on November 26, and continue his role for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season. This appointment adds Arthur, with extensive coaching credentials, to Rangpur’s setup, as he brings decades of experience from stints with South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Arthur has also worked with Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and currently holds the role of director of cricket at Derbyshire. Rangpur team director Shanian Taneem expressed excitement about the new signing, highlighting Arthur’s positive impact on the team’s culture and development. Taneem stated that Arthur has actively worked with the Riders’ management for over a week, helping build the squad for both the GSL and BPL. “He’s a fantastic addition to our team, and our local players are thrilled to learn from him.” Mickey has already made himself available to help whenever needed,” Taneem said.

Arthur’s connection to Bangladeshi cricket is not new, having coached Dhaka Dynamites in the BPL back in 2015. His familiarity with the league, combined with his engaging coaching style, promises to provide significant value, particularly for local Bangladeshi talent. Taneem further remarked on Arthur’s approachable nature, adding that his presence aligns well with the team’s culture and will greatly benefit the players.

Arthur’s extensive international coaching background should elevate the Riders’ strategies and preparations across both tournaments this season.
