Perth Scorchers enlist Marcus Harris as a replacement player for the BBL finals, addressing the absence of key overseas players Zak Crawley and Laurie Evans.

Perth Scorchers, the defending champions, have enlisted the services of Marcus Harris as a replacement player for the closing stages of the BBL. The team faced setbacks with Zak Crawley’s departure for England Test duties and Laurie Evans being unavailable for the finals due to an ILT20 deal. Additionally, Jhye Richardson’s injury prompted the need for reinforcements, leading to the signing of Marcus Harris.
Harris, who did not have a BBL contract, brings valuable experience to the Scorchers’ batting lineup. Having played for Melbourne Renegades last season and Scorchers between 2014 and 2016, Harris has accumulated 981 runs in T20s at an average of 20.43 and a strike rate of 121.71.
Perth Scorchers’ general manager, Kade Harvey, expressed satisfaction with Harris joining the squad, stating that he fits the team’s requirements well. Harris, familiar with the conditions having started his career in Perth, adds depth to the batting options, crucial with key players unavailable for the finals.
Despite already securing a place in the finals, Scorchers face an important match against Sydney Sixers to earn a spot in the Qualifier. The Qualifier, against Brisbane Heat, provides the opportunity for a second chance to reach the final on January 24. Perth Scorchers aim to create history by achieving a hat-trick of BBL titles.
Notably, Harris remains eligible for finals even if he does not play against Sydney Sixers. Replacement local players are exempt from the regular-season appearance requirement that applies to overseas signings in order to participate in the finals.
Having missed out on a Test comeback recently, Harris is eager to contribute to Perth Scorchers’ BBL campaign and make a significant impact in the upcoming finals.
