The Indian Premier League (IPL) season of 2023 saw a groundbreaking change in the form of the Impact Rule introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This innovative move allowed teams to include 12 players in their lineup, bringing a significant shift in the dynamics of the tournament. The BCCI cricket rule changes aimed to inject more excitement and flexibility into the already electrifying league, prompting IPL team lineup adjustments and altering the approach to the game.

However, the IPL Impact Rule elicited a range of responses from cricket enthusiasts, former players, and even the Indian cricket team captain himself, Rohit Sharma. While some welcomed the change, others, including Sharma, expressed reservations about its implications. In a podcast discussion on ‘Club Prairie Fire’, former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma deliberated on the rule’s impact, highlighting concerns and advocating for potential adjustments.
He mentioned how the Big Bash League (BBL) had a similar rule named the ‘X Factor,’ but they got rid of it because people didn’t like it and it caused problems.
