Former Indian captain and current Delhi Capitals (DC) Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, has ignited a debate regarding the lopsided nature of the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Ganguly expressed concerns about the growing imbalance between bat and ball, with flat pitches and certain rules seemingly favoring batsmen and leading to a string of high-scoring encounters.

In a press conference, Ganguly emphasized the need to restore equilibrium. “It’s not easy for the bowlers,” he stated. “They are being carted all over, and that’s an area that needs to be addressed in the future – the balance between bat and ball.” He pointed to explosive powerplays like the one displayed by SunRisers Hyderabad and aggressive knocks like Travis Head’s innings as examples of bowlers’ struggles this season.
While acknowledging the strength of DC’s batting lineup, Ganguly recognized the challenges faced by bowlers. He commented, “Our batting is also strong. We have given away 400 runs but scored them too. The wicket here is too good, a batting-friendly wicket.”
Ganguly’s concerns resonate with those previously voiced by cricketing legends like Sunil Gavaskar, who advocated for larger boundaries as a potential solution.
Looking ahead to DC’s upcoming crucial clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 27th, Ganguly revealed the unfortunate absence of star batsman David Warner and fast bowler Ishant Sharma.
Both DC and MI are desperate for a win to improve their positions in the standings. DC currently sits at the sixth spot with eight points, while MI occupies ninth place with six points. A victory for either team would be a significant boost to their playoff aspirations.
