The Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will be absent from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after a diagnosis of appendicitis. Ferrari has enlisted reserve driver Oliver Bearman to take over Sainz’s seat for the race in Jeddah.
Carlos Sainz, hailing from Madrid, began feeling unwell ahead of the Grand Prix and missed the media day on Wednesday. While initially hopeful to participate in Thursday’s practice sessions, his condition worsened, leading to the diagnosis of appendicitis.
Ferrari confirmed Sainz’s condition and the need for surgery, prompting the decision to replace him with Oliver Bearman for the remainder of the weekend. Consequently, Bearman, currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for Prema Racing, will make his Formula 1 debut alongside Charles Leclerc.
In a statement, Ferrari expressed well wishes for Sainz’s speedy recovery and announced Bearman’s temporary role, noting his withdrawal from the ongoing Formula 2 Championship round.
