In a significant move, Ferrari has officially announced the contract extension of Charles Leclerc, securing the talented driver’s services “beyond” the 2024 Formula 1 season. The Monegasque racer, a product of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2016, has established himself as a key figure in the Scuderia.
Leclerc’s journey with Ferrari began after winning the F3 series in his debut academy season and showcasing dominance in the 2017 Formula 2 championship. His F1 debut with Sauber in 2018 paved the way for his entry into Ferrari in 2019, where he quickly made history as the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix for the Scuderia.
Having claimed five Grand Prix victories and finishing as the runner-up in the 2022 Drivers’ standings, Leclerc has been a force to be reckoned with on the track. Despite occasional challenges converting pole positions into wins, he stands second on the list of Ferrari drivers with the most pole positions, tied with Niki Lauda.
In his 103 races with Ferrari, Charles Leclerc has stood on the podium 30 times, set seven fastest race laps, and accumulated 1035 points.
Team Principal Fred Vasseur emphasized the unique bond between Leclerc and Ferrari, extending beyond a typical driver-team relationship. Vasseur expressed confidence in Leclerc’s determination and commitment, highlighting the collaborative effort to provide him with a winning car.
Leclerc, thrilled about the contract extension, shared his joy, stating, “To race for this team has been my dream since I was three years old.” He emphasized the familial connection with Ferrari, dating back to his days in the Ferrari Driver Academy. Leclerc looks forward to further progress, competitiveness, and, ultimately, achieving his dream of winning the World Championship with Ferrari.
