Red Bull Racing has officially announced that Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey will be departing from the Red Bull Technology Group in the first quarter of 2025. The decision comes after weeks of speculation and marks the end of an era for the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
Newey, a renowned figure in Formula One, will step back from his design duties at Oracle Red Bull Racing to focus on the final development and delivery of Red Bull’s first hypercar, the RB17, set to be unveiled at Goodwood in July. However, he will continue to support the team trackside until the end of the 2024 season.
In a statement regarding his departure, Newey expressed gratitude for his time at Red Bull Racing, spanning nearly two decades. He emphasized his desire to pursue new challenges and thanked the team’s shareholders and colleagues for their support throughout his tenure.
Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal and CEO, lauded Newey’s contributions, highlighting his pivotal role in the team’s success over the past 20 years. Horner praised Newey’s vision, brilliance, and relentless drive, crediting him for the team’s 13 championship titles during his tenure.
Newey’s legacy at Red Bull Racing is illustrious; his technical leadership has been instrumental in achieving seven F1 Drivers’ and six Constructors’ Championship titles. Furthermore, his innovative designs, including the iconic RB6 and RB18, propelled the team to numerous victories and established Red Bull Racing as a dominant force in Formula One.
