The Belgium women’s hockey team triumphed over the People’s Republic of China with a 2-1 victory. Ambre Ballenghien scored the team’s first goal, contributing significantly to the win. “It was a lot of stress, but I think we stayed really calm. We showed character, we showed confidence in ourselves, and we got the second goal. So it was really good,” she said after the game.

Meanwhile, the Belgian men’s hockey team also secured a 2-1 victory, this time against New Zealand. Alexander Hendrickx stood out by scoring one goal from three shots, helping his team clinch the win.

The game of the day featured Spain vs Great Britain hockey, with Spain securing a 2-1 win over Great Britain. This match was particularly significant for Spain, as Team GB’s women’s team had previously eliminated them in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Securing a pool play win over the British team was crucial for the Spanish squad. Spain’s goalkeeper, Clara Perez, was instrumental in the victory, stopping three out of four shots.

“We knew from the beginning that it was going to be tough, since it is the Olympic Games and it was the first match. I think we knew really well what we had to do,” said Spain’s Lola Riera. “These matches are won mainly on defense. We are showing that we create a lot of danger with every ball we catch on the attack.”
