Uzbekistan’s Lazizbek Mullojonov claimed the gold medal in the men’s 92kg boxing event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, defeating Azerbaijan’s Loren Berto Alfonso Dominguez in a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision on August 9 at Stade Roland-Garros. The victory fulfilled a lifelong dream for Mullojonov, who expressed his joy, saying, “This was my childhood dream to get the gold medal at an Olympic Games. There have been difficult times, but I never lost hope. Now I can go home a champion.”

From the outset, Lazizbek Mullojonov took control of the bout, delivering powerful upper-body blows that pinned Alfonso Dominguez against the ropes. Despite Alfonso Dominguez’s efforts to counter with rapid combinations, Mullojonov’s relentless attack left little doubt for the judges, who awarded him the gold medal.
In the post-match press conference, Mullojonov shared the secret to his success. He explained, “You have to keep working, and just keep working, while continually training. Moreover, never skip a day or take a break, not even for a single day. Consequently, you will eventually get a gold medal.”
Alfonso Dominguez, though disappointed with the outcome, acknowledged Mullojonov’s strength and expressed his determination to move forward, saying, “It wasn’t my best night, and I didn’t fight very well. My opponent was very good, and now I think I’m just going to carry on.”
Spain’s Enmanuel Reyes Pla and Tajikistan’s Davlat Boltaev also joined them on the podium, with each earning bronze after losing their respective semi-final bouts.
