Jordan Alejandro Díaz Fortún made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning Spain’s first-ever gold medal in the men’s triple jump on Friday, August 9. The 23-year-old Cuban-born athlete took the lead with an impressive opening jump of 17.86 meters, a mark that kept him ahead throughout the competition.

Defending champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal came close to challenging Díaz Fortún with a second-round leap of 17.84 meters but ultimately had to settle for silver. Italy’s Andy Díaz Hernández secured the bronze with a jump of 17.64 meters. Despite the pressure, Díaz Fortún displayed remarkable consistency, with a flawless series of jumps: 17.86m, 17.64m, 17.85m, 17.84m, and 17.25m, underscoring his dominance on the night.
Díaz Fortún entered the Games with a world-leading jump of 18.18 meters, which places him third on the all-time list behind legends Jonathan Edwards and Christian Taylor. His victory in Paris adds to an already impressive list of achievements, including titles at the World Under-18, U-20, and Youth Olympic levels.
This Olympic gold is the crowning jewel in Díaz Fortún’s growing collection of accolades, marking him as one of the rising stars in athletics. His performance not only secured a historic win for Spain but also established him as a formidable force in the sport, setting the stage for what promises to be an exceptional career.
