Rashford Leads the Way as Man Utd Thrash Barnsley 7-0 in Ten Hag’s Record Win

Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag celebrated a “perfect night” as his side delivered their most emphatic victory under his stewardship, thrashing Barnsley 7-0 to advance to the last 16 of the competition.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Christian Eriksen each scored twice, with Antony adding a penalty to cap-off the dominant display. Rashford was particularly influential, not only scoring twice but also assisting in the buildup of three other goals, highlighting his critical role in United’s performance.

Ten Hag, who had endured criticism following a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in their last Old Trafford outing, was pleased with the comprehensive display. “For the team, this was the perfect night,” Ten Hag said. “We executed our plans flawlessly, scored some excellent goals, entertained our fans, and continued to develop our game model.”

He praised Rashford’s impact, noting, “When Marcus scores, it often makes things easier for the team. He’s a prolific goal scorer and his presence is a significant asset. But as always, you’re only as good as your last game, and you have to keep proving yourself.”

Rashford, who had ended a six-month goal drought with a strike in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Southampton, resumed his scoring form with a commanding finish after 16 minutes. Receiving a precise crossfield pass from Garnacho, Rashford calmly beat Barnsley goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina to open the scoring.

The match saw further goals from Antony, who converted a penalty awarded after a challenge by Slonina, and Garnacho. Who added two goals to the tally—one before halftime and another shortly after the break. Eriksen’s double in the final stages rounded off the scoring as United delivered a statement performance.

New signing Manuel Ugarte, making his first start since his £50 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. Showcased his potential with a dynamic midfield run that led to a penalty and several key contributions.

The victory not only showcased United’s attacking prowess but also marked a significant turnaround after a challenging start to the-season. Rashford, reflecting on the win, emphasized the importance of building momentum and consistency. “Football has its ups and downs, but games like this help us find our rhythm and maintain a-high-level,” he said.

The result marks a potential turning point for Ten Hag’s side, offering a boost as they look to build on this performance and push forward in their season.
