Aleix Espargaro is pushing through a challenging hand injury to participate in the upcoming German MotoGP. Aiming to maximize his therapy despite a fractured right hand sustained during a Sprint accident at Assen.
The factory Aprilia rider, set to retire at the end of this season and confirmed as Honda’s test rider for 2025, remains committed despite the injury’s impact on throttle control.
“My hand is still not okay; it’s a complicated injury affecting throttle control,” Espargaro explained, having also endured a heavy fall in Friday practice at Assen. “Mobility is limited, and there’s significant pain, but I want to give it a try.”
Continuing intensive therapy until Thursday, Espargaro plans a last-minute arrival at Sachsenring to participate in Friday’s FP1. Pending a medical check to determine his fitness.
Having been cleared for Assen’s warm-up but withdrawing due to pain. Espargaro’s readiness for Friday’s session at Sachsenring hinges on medical approval to test his hand.
Aprilia faces a challenge with Espargaro’s absence compounded by injured test rider Lorenzo Savadori, sidelined after a wild-card entry at Assen.
Meanwhile, Maverick Vinales, following a Sprint podium at Assen, seeks redemption at Sachsenring after mechanical setbacks in previous years.
“Sachsenring isn’t my favorite, but I’m confident after Assen,” Vinales stated, eyeing strong results before the summer break.
With Pedro Acosta’s Assen accident benefitting Vinales in the championship standings, the Spaniard aims to maintain momentum. Leading the fight for fifth and top non-Ducati rider.
Looking ahead, Vinales will join Acosta at Tech3 next season, while Aprilia plans a new lineup with Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.
As Espargaro and Vinales prepare for Sachsenring, their determination underscores their aspirations amid challenges in the MotoGP season.
