Marc Marquez Dismisses Crash Count in 2024 MotoGP Season, Focuses on Future Goals

Marc Marquez has downplayed the significance of his crash tally in the 2024 MotoGP season, expressing a greater concern for minimizing mistakes during races. The Gresini rider has recorded 16 falls in the first 11 rounds of the championship. Placing him at the top of the crash statistics for the year.

Despite being renowned for frequent crashes throughout his career—often attributed to the challenging nature of the Honda bike during his 11-year tenure with the Japanese manufacturer—Marquez has continued this trend even after switching to the more rider-friendly Ducati GP23. His crash count in 2024 is on track to match or exceed the 23 falls he experienced in 2023.

Among his notable incidents this season are high-profile crashes shortly after taking the lead at the Americas GP. As well as mishaps in the sprint races at Silverstone and Spielberg. Reflecting on his crashes, Marquez noted that while some of his early-season falls were not entirely his fault, recent crashes have impacted his confidence. However, he remains focused on improving his performance.

“The most positive aspect is that my crashes have occurred mostly in practice sessions,” Marquez explained. “In the races, I strive to stay on the bike, which I consider the most important point. While I’d prefer to crash less, at the moment, the number of crashes is not a major concern for me.”

Marquez's

Despite his crash woes, Marquez has demonstrated impressive speed throughout the 2024 season. He has secured four podium finishes and is comfortably placed fourth in the championship standings, trailing only those on the newer Ducati GP24 machinery. However, 31-year-old has not yet secured a win, marking a 1000-day drought since his last victory at Misano in 2021.

Marquez acknowledges the challenges posed by the less competitive Honda package over the past two years and the dominance of the Ducati GP23 this season. Yet, he remains undeterred by his winless streak. His focus is on laying groundwork for a strong 2025-season, with aspirations to challenge for the championship title once again.

“For me, the number of days since my last win is not crucial,” Marquez said. “This year is about building and gaining confidence. We started the season well, experienced a setback, but are now on the rise again. The goal for the second half of the season is to continue improving, aim for podiums, and if not a victory this year, then certainly next year.”

Marquez’s unwavering focus on his long-term goals reflects his commitment to returning to championship contention. Underscoring his resilience and determination as he navigates the challenges of the current season.
