Newly onboard Repsol Honda rider Luca Marini sets his sights on surpassing his teammate in the upcoming MotoGP season.

Marini’s ascension to the Repsol Honda team for the 2024 MotoGP season, replacing Marc Marquez, marks a significant move for Valentino Rossi’s brother. The switch from VR46 to a factory position at Honda underscores Marini’s rise in the racing world.
“Following Marc’s announcement of change, we strived to approach this new project, aiming for collective improvement and a superior-performing bike,” Marini expressed in his initial statement since joining Honda officially on January 1, 2024.
“Our goal is to return to winning races and championships. It will be an immensely satisfying moment.”

Marini’s decision to embrace the Honda opportunity is rooted in the team’s esteemed history and potential for resurgence. “Honda stands as the best in history, capable of returning to the top. I’m committed to investing all my energy into this project to maintain our position at the pinnacle,” he explained.
Acknowledging Honda’s recent struggles, Marini’s analytical approach and data-driven skills are perceived as pivotal for the team’s rejuvenation this season.
Teaming up with Joan Mir, Marini has immediately targeted surpassing his new teammate. “Our initial objective is to gauge our speed and potential after the initial test, aiming to outperform my competitors and teammates using the same machinery. This is the primary goal,” Marini emphasized.
“In addition, I aim to secure a podium finish and ultimately clinch a victory with this bike, albeit I’m aware of the challenges. Our progression will be gradual.”
Reflecting on his first encounter with HRC staff, Marini expressed enthusiasm. “The initial meeting was incredible but brief. We have ample time in the winter, during tests and the season, to engage with every team member,” he elaborated.
“Working with this team is a dream, and I am genuinely captivated by the Japanese culture. There’s a promising synergy.”
Marini’s shift to Honda holds significance not only because of his brother Rossi’s legacy but also due to Marini’s past association with Honda during his formative years.
“Regarding my history with Honda colors from years ago, it’s hard to say if it was destiny. I do recall the joy of wearing those colors. It’s a tremendous honor to sport them now,” Marini reflected.
His journey at Repsol Honda signifies a significant chapter in his racing career, embodying both personal history and a commitment to pushing boundaries in MotoGP.
