Luca Marini, the newest addition to the Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) team, asserts that replicating Ducati’s MotoGP strategies won’t suffice to enhance the Honda RC213V’s performance, stressing the importance of a distinct approach tailored to Honda’s strengths.
Transitioning from Ducati machinery to Honda after three seasons with Avintia and VR46, Marini brings valuable insights from Ducati’s successful Desmosedici to Honda, aiding its MotoGP stability and competitiveness quest.
Luca Marini believes that each MotoGP bike has its unique characteristics, emphasizing the necessity for Honda to leverage its strengths rather than mimicking Ducati’s approach.

“The DNA of every bike must remain the same, utilizing its strong points,” Marini explains. “Transforming the Honda into a Ducati wouldn’t be the correct approach.”
Since joining Honda, Marini has faced challenges with rear tire management, particularly on fresh tires, which is an area he feels needs improvement for the upcoming 2024 season.
“Using the rear tire effectively, especially with new tires, is crucial,” Marini elaborates. “Ducati excels in this aspect, whereas I struggle with braking and turning on the Honda.”

Despite Marini’s adaptation process, he acknowledges the faster transition of fellow Ducati alumnus Johann Zarco to the Honda, recognizing Zarco’s familiarity with the bike’s nuances and his ability to push with new tires.
Looking ahead, Marini sees the upcoming Qatar test as a pivotal opportunity for Honda to test new components and refine the RC213V’s performance ahead of the 2024 season opener in March.
“In Qatar, we’ll focus on fine-tuning the bike’s wheelbase and overall balance,” Marini comments. “It’s a critical test where we’ll aim to enhance our competitiveness for the upcoming races.”
As Marini continues to acclimate to the Honda RC213V, his insights and feedback are poised to contribute significantly to Honda’s pursuit of success in MotoGP.
