As Ducati contemplates its MotoGP lineup for the upcoming season, the team’s sporting director, Gigi Dall’Igna, finds himself facing a challenging decision with several talented riders vying for coveted spots.
Among the contenders are Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez, and Enea Bastianini, each offering compelling reasons for consideration. While Martin’s consistent results may position him as the frontrunner, Marquez’s remarkable performance since joining Ducati, particularly highlighted by his impressive showing at Le Mans, adds complexity to the decision-making process.
Reflecting on Marquez’s achievements and the impending decision, Dall’Igna acknowledged the difficulty of the choice ahead, emphasizing the need to select the most suitable rider for the factory team and other Ducati squads.
The recent races at Le Mans showcased outstanding performances from Ducati’s top riders, with Martin securing pole position and both race victories, while Marquez demonstrated his prowess by finishing second in both races after starting from 13th on the grid. Bastianini also showcased his potential by posting the fastest lap and making significant progress in the race.
Despite finishing third in the grand prix, reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia faced stiff competition from Martin and Marquez in the closing stages. While unable to secure victory, Dall’Igna commended Bagnaia’s commendable performance and expressed satisfaction with the overall race.
As Ducati evaluates its options for the upcoming season, Dall’Igna and the team must carefully weigh each rider’s merits to make the best decision for the team’s future success in MotoGP.
