Aprilia CEO Discusses Maverick Vinales’ Future Amidst Rider Line-Up Changes

Following the official announcement of Jorge Martin joining Aprilia to replace the retiring Aleix Espargaro, attention has shifted to the remaining factory Aprilia seat and Maverick Vinales’ future.

As Vinales currently holds the top position among the Aprilia RS-GP riders, speculation surrounds whether he will continue with the team beyond the current season. Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola has expressed a strong desire for Vinales to remain, even suggesting him as the potential new team leader.

Rivola emphasized that Vinales’ decision will dictate the team’s next steps, with the priority being to understand his intentions. Should Vinales choose to stay, Rivola sees him as a natural successor to Espargaro due to his contributions in elevating Aprilia’s performance.

While there had been discussions about recruiting an Italian rider, Rivola stated that such plans are currently on hold pending Vinales’ decision. The focus remains on retaining Vinales, given his pivotal role in the team.

Vinales, on his part, has remained non-committal about his future, emphasizing that his decision will be based on performance considerations. He acknowledged his commitment to Aprilia for the current season but kept his options open regarding subsequent years.

Regarding Espargaro’s expected move to Honda as a test rider for 2025, Vinales expressed surprise, while Rivola humorously suggested a potential assistant role for Espargaro due to his instrumental role in promoting Aprilia to incoming riders.

As Vinales continues to navigate his future in MotoGP, the outcome will not only impact Aprilia’s rider line-up but also shape the dynamics within the team for the upcoming seasons.
