Perez approached Miami just six points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ standings, carrying a 2-2 win record from victories in Jeddah and a double win in Baku’s first sprint weekend.
In the USA’s first leg of three races, Verstappen’s early Q3 error and Leclerc’s late crash granted Perez pole position, while Verstappen started ninth. Despite this advantage, Verstappen orchestrated a strategic rise, ultimately overtaking Perez after a well-timed pitstop.
