Aston Martin recently extended their partnership with Fernando Alonso until 2026, signaling their commitment to the new era of Formula 1. However, team principal Mike Krack has revealed some private concerns about Alonso’s long-term dedication to the sport.
Krack acknowledged that Alonso had been clear from the beginning about the draining nature of F1’s demanding schedule and the toll it takes on one’s energy and personal life. Despite the concerns, Krack expressed relief that Alonso’s passion for F1 outweighed any desire for a different lifestyle.
While speculation linked Alonso to drives at Red Bull and Mercedes, Krack emphasized that internally, there were no indications of Alonso wavering from his commitment to Aston Martin. Alonso had prioritized discussions with Aston Martin if he chose to continue in F1, which ultimately led to the contract extension.

Due to the uncertainties in the driver market for 2025, Krack and Alonso had agreed on an early deadline to make a decision. Fortunately, both parties honored their commitment, leading to a smooth negotiation process.
With Alonso’s contract secured, Krack indicated that efforts would now focus on finalizing a new deal with teammate Lance Stroll. The team views Stroll as an integral part of their project and aims for continuity in their lineup.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties, Aston Martin remains optimistic about their future in F1 with Alonso and Stroll at the helm.
