Newly appointed AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer anticipates an impactful partnership with the team’s fresh face, team principal Laurent Mekies, positioning themselves as dynamic allies to elevate the outfit’s performance.
Following the departure of long-standing team boss Franz Tost after an 18-year tenure, Bayer and Mekies step in to take the helm, set to unveil a new identity for the Faenza-based team in the near future.
Bayer highlighted Mekies’ wealth of experience, emphasizing his network and strategic insight gained from his tenure with Ferrari. He anticipates Mekies’ contributions to be pivotal in driving the team’s operations and enhancing its dynamics, particularly during the rebranding phase.
Describing their collaboration, Bayer emphasized their complementary strengths: “We’ll be sparring partners for each other, challenging and supporting one another in our roles. Having two principals with diverse backgrounds is a strength in the complexity of F1 today.”
Bayer underlined the advantages of their combined leadership, citing their interests in technical and commercial aspects, which allow them to delve into different realms while aligning on the team’s goals.
Meanwhile, Mekies officially marked his arrival at AlphaTauri, expressing gratitude to Ferrari for his past five years. He looks forward to embarking on a new journey with the Faenza-based team, signaling enthusiasm for the promising opportunities ahead.
