Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur is optimistic about the Scuderia’s prospects as they head to the Singapore Grand Prix, determined to bounce back after missing out on victory in Baku.
At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc looked set for a potential win after he secured his fourth consecutive pole position at the circuit. Leclerc, who had dominated the early stages, saw his lead slip away following the first pit stop. Despite an impressive performance and building an initial lead of over six seconds on medium tires. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri ultimately overtook Leclerc, claiming his second career F1 victory.
Reflecting on the Baku race, Vasseur expressed his frustration but acknowledged Ferrari’s competitive pace. “The result from last weekend was disappointing, but it highlights that we are in strong form. Formula 1 is incredibly tight at the moment, with minimal gaps between the top teams. We are eager to maintain this momentum at Singapore, another challenging street circuit where both our drivers excel.”
Ferrari enters the Singapore Grand Prix on the back of a memorable victory by Carlos Sainz, who employed a unique DRS strategy to secure his second win with the Scuderia. “We aim to replicate that success,” Vasseur said. “Continuing our strong teamwork and refining our strategy will be crucial.”
Vasseur also emphasized the importance of tire management, noting that Singapore will be the third consecutive race featuring the same three softest tire compounds. “Understanding these tires better will be key, though every track has its own nuances,” he added. “Qualifying will be critical at Marina Bay, and we are well-prepared to challenge our rivals.”
As Ferrari gears up for the Singapore Grand Prix, they focus on leveraging their recent strong performances and addressing the challenges of the street circuit to achieve a successful result.
