Hansi Flick Mulls Playing Alejandro Balde as Makeshift Attacker for Barcelona’s Trip to Celta Vigo

Barcelona are grappling with a minor injury crisis ahead of their return to action after the international break. Manager Hansi Flick faces several key absences for the upcoming trip to Celta Vigo, with Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres ruled out, and Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal uncertain to feature.

Currently, Barcelona has only four fit, attack-minded players available for selection for the match at Balaidos: Raphinha, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, and Pau Victor. In light of this, Flick is contemplating a bold tactical decision that could see left-back Alejandro Balde deployed in a more advanced role on the left wing.

According to Sport, Balde, 21, is no stranger to playing in attacking positions, having done so during his time at La Masia. However, this decision would likely hinge on Lewandowski’s availability. If the Polish striker is unable to start, Pau Victor would likely be tasked with taking a wing position, allowing Balde to slot in as a winger. If this scenario plays out, Gerard Martin would likely replace Balde at left-back.

While Balde’s potential shift to the wing could provide a creative solution, it poses a risk for Barcelona, particularly given the team’s historical struggles at Balaidos. With Gerard Martin’s performances this season not entirely convincing, the move could prove to be a high-risk strategy for Flick as Barcelona looks to maintain its momentum in La Liga.
