Crystal Palace have exercised the option to extend Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract, keeping the French striker at Selhurst Park for an additional two and a half years.
The 27-year-old’s existing deal, which was set to expire in June 2026, would have entered its final 18 months at the start of the new year. However, sources close to the club confirmed to BBC Sport that the Eagles have activated the extension clause, although the club has yet to make an official announcement.
Mateta’s impressive form in recent months, particularly in front of goal, has played a pivotal role in Palace’s decision. The forward has become a central figure under manager Oliver Glasner, who has helped bring out the best in him.
Mateta enjoyed a standout end to last season, scoring 11 goals in the final 10 matches, which helped secure a 10th-place finish for Palace in the Premier League. He also shone on the international stage, scoring five goals for the French national team at the Olympics, where they claimed a silver medal.
This season, Mateta has continued his good form, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 21 appearances across all competitions. The striker has expressed his ambitions to play European football and is also eyeing a spot in France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Crystal Palace, currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, will next face Bournemouth on Boxing Day, as they look to climb the table and build on their attacking strength with Mateta leading the charge.
