Barcelona won 5-1 over Sevilla, Lewandowski shines with two goals

Barcelona delivered an impressive performance on Sunday, thrashing Sevilla 5-1 to maintain their three-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. With Real Madrid having secured a win against Celta Vigo on Saturday. The Catalans quickly reestablished their advantage with a dazzling display of attacking football ahead of next weekend’s highly anticipated Clasico.

Robert Lewandowski was the standout performer, scoring twice and bringing his tally to 12 goals in just 10 league matches. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Peque, a former Barcelona youth player, brought down Raphinha in the box. Lewandowski’s stuttered run-up deceived Sevilla goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, giving the home side an early lead.

Barcelona’s attacking momentum continued as Pedri González doubled their advantage, finding the net from the edge of the box after being set up by the lively Lamine Yamal. Although Lewandowski came close to scoring again shortly after, Nyland made a crucial save to deny him.

The Polish striker did not have to wait long for his second goal, expertly guiding Raphinha’s long-range drive into the net with a deft flick before the halftime whistle. Sevilla’s woes worsened when explosive winger Chidera Ejuke left the field due to injury just before the break.

In the second half, Barcelona kept the pressure on, with Raphinha seeing a goal ruled out for offside. Yamal showcased his talent with a spectacular shot from distance that Nyland managed to save. Sevilla had a rare chance when Dodi Lukebakio struck but the officials caught him offside.

Pablo Torre added a fourth for Barcelona, his shot deflecting off a defender before finding the back of the net. The match saw the return of Gavi, who made his first-appearance in 11-months, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from the fans. Pedri praised Gavi, saying, “He’s a great guy, a hard worker, he deserves this moment. You can see the fans love him, and we all do.”

Sevilla managed to grab a consolation goal through Stanis Idumbo, who netted in the 13th minute. But Torre put the finishing touches on the scoreline with a fortunate free-kick that curled in at the far post.

With this victory, Barcelona not only demonstrated their attacking prowess but also reinforced their status as serious contenders in La Liga as they prepare for upcoming challenges, including a crucial Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
