Prince William, the president of the FA, has announced plans to travel to Germany to support the England football team during a crucial Euro 2024 match next week.
Scheduled to be at the Frankfurt Arena on June 20, the day before his 42nd birthday, Prince William will witness England facing Denmark in their second Group C fixture. While it remains uncertain whether he will be accompanied by his children, it is unlikely that the Princess of Wales will join him due to her ongoing recovery from cancer treatment.
This decision follows Prince William’s recent visit to the England squad to offer his well-wishes before their departure for Germany. During this visit, England captain Harry Kane hinted at Prince William’s intention to attend some of England’s Euro 2024 matches, emphasizing the prince’s passion for football and his children’s growing enthusiasm for the sport.
England will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday before facing Denmark in the subsequent match. Prior to their departure for the tournament, Prince William presented the players with their squad numbers and met with manager Gareth Southgate. He also shared a light-hearted anecdote about his youngest son Prince Louis’ advice to “eat twice the amount” to boost their performance, much to the amusement of the players.
While Prince William has previously attended Euro 2020 matches with his family at Wembley Stadium, his absence from the England women’s team’s World Cup final in 2023 sparked criticism. Despite his absence, Prince William apologized to the Lionesses in a video message before their match, expressing regret for not being able to attend due to logistical constraints.
As Euro 2024 commences in Munich with the hosts Germany facing Scotland, England prepares to navigate through a challenging group stage against Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia. Alongside their Scottish counterparts, England aims to advance further in the tournament, with Prince William’s support serving as a source of encouragement for the team.
