Ruben Amorim Plans Key Role for Forgotten Man Utd Star Mason Mount

Ruben Amorim has big plans for Mason Mount as he begins his tenure at Manchester United, with the 39-year-old coach earmarking the midfielder for a prominent role in his team. Amorim, who was appointed as United’s new manager this week after leaving Sporting Lisbon, inherits a squad that finds itself 13th in the Premier League following a troubled start to the season under his predecessor, Erik ten Hag.

Amorim arrives at Old Trafford with a strong reputation as one of Europe’s brightest managerial talents, having won two Portuguese league titles and two cups during his time at Sporting. His appointment has been hailed as a significant coup for the club, and there is considerable anticipation surrounding his plans for the team.

One of the intriguing aspects of Amorim’s approach will be his team selection, particularly in regard to Mount, who has struggled to make an impact since joining United from Chelsea in a £60million deal last summer. According to a report from The Sun, Amorim has identified Mount as a key player in his revamped squad, with the Portuguese coach reportedly admiring Mount’s versatility, which could see him play a crucial role in United’s setup.

Mount, 25, has recently returned to full training after a series of injuries limited his appearances to just 26 games since his move. His time at Chelsea saw him become a central figure, and his departure from Stamford Bridge was met with mixed reactions from fans. Mount’s best spell came under former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who deployed a back three system. Mount thrived in an inverted winger role during this period, and it remains to be seen how Amorim will utilise him in a similar formation.

Under Ten Hag, Mount was expected to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in a dual No. 10 role, operating just ahead of defensive midfielder Casemiro. However, injuries and inconsistent form disrupted this plan, and Mount was unable to deliver his best performances. With Ten Hag now sacked following a disappointing start to the season, Amorim’s arrival could offer Mount a fresh opportunity to rediscover his form and become an integral part of United’s midfield.

As Amorim prepares for the challenges of leading United, all eyes will be on how he reshapes the squad, and Mount’s potential resurgence could be one of the most significant stories under his reign.
