Nicky Butt Sentenced After Range Rover Crash Injures Motorcyclist

Careless driving causing serious injury landed former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt a 12-month driving ban and 100 hours of unpaid work after he admitted to the offense. The incident occurred in Burnley, Lancashire on October 17, 2022, resulting in a motorcyclist, Andrew Filden, sustaining a broken leg.

Butt, 49, driving his Range Rover, failed to notice Filden, leading to the collision that required surgery and the insertion of rods into Filden’s left leg. At Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, Butt avoided jail time despite the offense carrying a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or an unlimited fine.

John Dye, Butt’s defense attorney, acknowledged the severity of losing his driving license, stating, “The loss of his licence is going to be extremely inconvenient to him and his family but that is the inevitable consequence of this case.”

In a statement to the court, Butt expressed deep remorse, saying, “I could not be more sorry.”
