Kenza Dali, Aston Villa’s seasoned midfielder, has officially joined National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club San Diego Wave for an undisclosed fee. The 33-year-old France international announced her move on social media on Sunday, shortly after being left out of Villa’s squad for their Women’s Super League (WSL) draw with Everton last weekend.
Dali’s impact at Aston Villa since her arrival in 2022 has been significant. Over two seasons, she made 66 appearances and scored nine goals, becoming a key figure in the team’s midfield. Reflecting on her time at the club, Villa extended their gratitude in an official statement, saying, “We thank Kenza for her time at the club and wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
At San Diego Wave, Dali will be managed by Jonas Eidevall, the former Arsenal boss who stepped into the role earlier this year. With the NWSL season set to kick off on 14 March, the French playmaker’s experience and skillset are expected to bolster the team’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa will need to regroup quickly as they prepare to face Manchester City in the WSL on Saturday at 12:00 GMT. Despite Dali’s departure, the club will aim to maintain their momentum and focus on building a strong finish to their season.
