Manchester United are poised to finalize the signing of Manuel Ugarte, with the deal now nearing completion following an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 23-year-old Uruguay international is en route to Manchester to undergo a medical examination, having settled terms with PSG for his transfer. The deal is set to be worth an initial £42 million, with an additional £9 million in performance-related add-ons. A formal agreement was reached between the two clubs on Monday night.
Ugarte has been Manchester United’s top target to bolster their midfield this summer. As they seek a long-term replacement for the veteran Casemiro. Despite a challenging debut season at PSG—following his £51 million move from Sporting Lisbon—Ugarte has remained a key figure in United’s plans. His performances for Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa during the Copa America further solidified his standing with United’s scouting team.
Although Ugarte faced difficulties adapting to life at the Parc des Princes last season. He still made 37 appearances across all competitions, contributing to PSG’s Ligue 1 title. Coupe de France, and Trophee des Champions victories.
Ugarte’s arrival will mark Manchester United’s fifth signing of the summer. Following the acquisitions of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui. His addition is expected to accelerate the departure of Scotland international Scott McTominay. Who is set to join Napoli in a £30 million transfer deal under the management of Antonio Conte.
With this crucial addition, Manchester United aim to enhance their midfield depth and fortify their squad for the upcoming season.
