Liverpool has made a significant move by including teenage defender Carter Pinnington in their Europa League squad’s ‘B’ list. Potentially paving the way for his first-team debut. The Reds took advantage of the opportunity to call upon homegrown talents from their under-21 setup after the main European squad deadline had passed. Pinnington, aged 17, joins the squad for their upcoming match against Sparta Prague at Anfield.
This decision follows the unfortunate injury ruling out senior center-back Ibrahima Konate from the match. However, another promising teenager, Amara Nallo, who was on the bench for the recent draw against Manchester City, does not qualify for the ‘B’ list as he joined Liverpool only in 2023.
Liverpool holds a commanding lead going into the Anfield fixture following their convincing 5-1 victory in Czechia. With such an advantage, manager Jurgen Klopp might opt to give valuable playing time to several young talents. Including Lewis Koumas and Mateusz Musialowski, who were unused substitutes in the first leg.

Klopp expressed confidence in Konate’s recovery, hinting at his potential involvement in the upcoming FA Cup clash against Manchester United. The manager’s decision regarding the defensive lineup. Whether to continue with Virgil van Dijk and Jarell Quansah or make changes, remains to be seen.
Quansah, eligible for the ‘B’ list this season, joins first-team regulars Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott. Additionally, Musialowski and forward Jayden Danns were previously added to the squad for the trip to Prague.
Despite his young age, Pinnington has been a consistent performer for Liverpool’s under-21 side in Premier League 2 this season. He showcased his talent by starting all four EFL Trophy games and played a pivotal role in the team’s successful advancement to the second round. Moreover, his standout performance in the FA Youth Cup victory over Arsenal further underscores his potential.
Liverpool’s dominance in the first leg against Sparta Prague, coupled with their impressive home record in the group stages, sets the stage for an exciting encounter at Anfield, where they aim to secure their spot in the next round of the Europa League.
