and Jamie Carragher found themselves in an unexpected situation after underestimating Arsenal’s chances in the 2023/24 Premier League title race.
Last season, Arsenal had an eight-point lead over Manchester City with 10 matches remaining, but their form faltered, allowing City to clinch the title. However, this season, Arsenal has surged back to the top of the table with eight consecutive wins, bolstered by key signings like Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and David Raya.
Neville and Carragher, in their analysis last May, doubted Arsenal’s ability to challenge City, with Neville primarily backing Liverpool as contenders. Carragher went further, suggesting that Manchester United could also be in contention, but both teams have fallen short this season.

Despite their predictions, Arsenal now leads the table, level on points with Liverpool and one ahead of City. Their consistency and impressive performances, with 33 goals scored and only four conceded in their last eight matches, have defied expectations.
Neville had acknowledged Liverpool’s previous ability to challenge City but expressed doubts about their consistency. Carragher had faith in Liverpool and United but admitted the gap might be too significant for both teams to bridge.
However, United currently sits in sixth place, far behind the top three, while Arsenal has emerged as the team to beat with the best attacking and defensive records in the league.
The unexpected turn of events has left Neville and Carragher red-faced, highlighting the unpredictable nature of football and the impressive resurgence of Arsenal in the title race.
