Eintracht Frankfurt is mourning loss of coach Helge Rasche, who tragically died in a car accident at age of 33. Reports from Germany indicate that Rasche’s vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree.
The club expressed their profound sorrow in a statement, saying, “Eintracht Frankfurt is devastated by the loss of our U19 head coach Helge Rasche. The 33-year-old tragically lost his life in a traffic accident yesterday. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Rasche began his coaching career at Hallescher FC before joining Frankfurt’s youth setup in 2020. He took charge of the Under-19 team in 2023 after a successful stint with the Under-17s.
Tributes have poured in from across the football community. Borussia Dortmund expressed their sympathy, stating, “We mourn the loss of Helge Rasche and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace.” VfL Wolfsburg also offered their heartfelt condolences: “Our sincere and heartfelt sympathies go to his family, friends, and loved ones. Rest in peace.”
Mainz, another Bundesliga club, shared their sorrow, saying, “Our sincere condolences go out to the relatives, friends, and the entire Eintracht family.”
Just days before his death, Rasche’s Under-19 team had achieved notable success. Advancing in the DFB Junior Cup with a 1-0 victory over Energie Cottbus’ Under-19 side on August 31. Despite a loss in their opening league match against Karlsruhe. Frankfurt’s youth team secured 10 points from their next four games, placing them second in their group. They recently drew 2-2 with Nurnberg after scoring a late equalizer.
The 2023-24 season marked Rasche’s first full campaign as head coach of Frankfurt’s Under-19 team. Where they finished sixth out of 14-teams in Under-19 Bundesliga, including a notable opening-day win over Bayern Munich’s youth squad.
The youth football community has united in support, with Union Berlin’s youth department offering their condolences: “Our sincere sympathies go to all relatives, players, and the entire Eintracht family. We wish you strength during this difficult time.”
Rasche’s death is a significant loss to the football community, and his contributions and the impact he had on his players will be remembered fondly.
