Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri continues to make waves, earning high praise from teammates and manager Mikel Arteta following a standout performance in the Gunners’ 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford. The 17-year-old, who became Arsenal’s youngest-ever senior player at the same ground last year, showcased his immense potential during his first full Premier League start.
Midfielder Mikel Merino, who also scored against Brentford, hailed Nwaneri’s impact, admitting the teenager’s talent is “scary.” Speaking after the match, Merino said:
“He is an unbelievable player and a really nice guy, very shy but always eager to learn. He listens to experienced players and the coach, always looking for ways to improve.
“What’s scary is that it’s not just him; so many young players from the academy are incredibly talented. When I was 17, I was just a kid, but these guys are playing against some of the best teams in Europe with no fear. We need to take care of them because they have such bright futures ahead.”
Arteta echoed Merino’s sentiments, praising Nwaneri’s composure and determination. Reflecting on the teenager’s performance, the Arsenal boss said:
“We faced challenges leading up to the game, losing some players and making adjustments. Ethan stepped in and delivered an outstanding performance. He showed great composure, took risks, and demonstrated impressive initiative. It’s a fantastic story for him to play here again after making his debut last year.”

Nwaneri’s emergence highlights the strength of Arsenal’s academy, which continues to produce young talent capable of excelling on the big stage. The teenager will be looking to build on his strong start with upcoming fixtures against Brighton in the Premier League and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Arteta will have to make adjustments to his squad, with defender Jurrien Timber suspended for the Brighton clash after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Brentford.
With a blend of promising young talent and experienced players like Merino, Arsenal’s future looks bright as they push forward in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
