Ruben Amorim has firmly stated that Marcus Rashford still has a future at Manchester United, despite the forward expressing a desire for a “new challenge” and his recent absence from the squad in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
The 27-year-old has faced a difficult 18 months at Old Trafford, with a noticeable dip in form leading to speculation that United could look to sell him. Rashford’s omission from the squad for last weekend’s Manchester derby only fueled further uncertainty regarding his future.
In an interview earlier this week, Rashford admitted he was “ready for a new challenge,” which cast serious doubt over his place at the club. However, Amorim, speaking after Thursday’s 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, emphasized that the club still sees Rashford as an integral part of their plans.
When asked whether it might be in the best interest of both the club and the player to part ways, Amorim made it clear that he was committed to Rashford’s development.
“He is a United player, everyone has a future at Manchester United,” said Amorim, reinforcing his belief in Rashford’s potential.
The United manager further expressed that, while Rashford should have perhaps discussed his future in private, the club remains supportive of the forward.
“Nothing has changed – we believe in Marcus,” Amorim added. “It’s a hard situation to comment on. If I give a lot of importance, it will make big headlines, and if I say it’s not a problem, then my standards are getting low.”
Amorim also noted that his focus was on the present, not the future, stressing the importance of Rashford performing at the highest level.
“This kind of club needs big talent, and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level. That is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
With Amorim’s unwavering support, it seems Rashford’s future at Manchester United will remain at the forefront of discussions as the season progresses.
