WPL 2024 Update: Lea Tahuhu Named as Replacement for Lauren Cheatle in Gujarat Giants Squad

Gearing up for the eagerly awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, Gujarat Giants strategically brought in Lea Tahuhu as a replacement for Australian left-arm quick Lauren Cheatle. Gujarat secured the seasoned 33-year-old pacer from New Zealand for a notable sum of Rs 30 lakhs. This move came about following Cheatle’s withdrawal from the tournament due to a medical procedure addressing skin cancer on her neck.

WPL 2024 Update: Lea Tahuhu Named as Replacement for Lauren Cheatle in Gujarat Giants Squad

Lea Tahuhu, renowned for her impressive track record in both T20Is and ODIs, brings a wealth of experience, having represented New Zealand in 80 T20Is and 93 ODIs. Her bowling prowess is evident in her remarkable statistics, boasting 78 and 109 wickets in the respective formats.

The unfortunate withdrawal of Cheatle, initially acquired for Rs 30 lakhs in the auction, presents a challenge for the Giants. In the previous season, the team faced difficulties, finishing at the bottom of the table with six losses in eight matches.

As the Giants prepare to embark on their WPL journey, the spotlight will be on their opening match against the Mumbai Indians, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, scheduled for February 25 in Bengaluru. This strategic acquisition of Lea Tahuhu reflects the Giants’ determination to elevate their performance and make a significant impact in the upcoming Women’s Premier League.
